ASB Report July/August
Spencer Redula
Technology Department
12 August 2023
Position assessment - Throughout the summer, the technology department has been slowed down due to the problems with the MacBook. Starting in early July, I constructed an email to administration and county about the history of the MacBook problem, the issues that we have with it, and the solutions moving forward on how to both combat this as well as have a successful year. While not testing it as of 8/12/23, we have received a “fixed” MacBook back from IT and are excited to start the year. Filming for football and girls volleyball are our first priorities as well as filming for the positions video. We hope to make this year what we envisioned without the problems last year and are all excited to move forward with a fresh slate.
Standing Committee - I have been on no standing committees as of this point.
Special Committee - During the 1st day of school, myself and the technology department set up and played music in addition to freshmen orientation in the morning. Although this technically falls under the position assessment, this was a special task for us handed down by the Activities Director to facilitate and ease the freshmen during their initial transitional periods.
Mentorship Evaluation/Completion at time of Meeting - Because I did not go to Core Camp this year, I have had limited interaction with my mentor, Robin Singh, but from the times where we can see each other - training days, 7th period, passing, etc. - it has been really awesome to become his mentor and be able to pass down what I have learned in my 4 years to him throughout this year.
Concerns/Change - One concern that I have would be the limited space, albeit that Morty is working exceptionally hard to find us spaces. The reason for concern on this is that everyone needs space to work, communicate, and separate. Even though the comment was made that cliques can’t be made since we are all on top of each other, I believe the space, and more importantly the space for computers and journals, is utmost necessary thinking long term.
Positive comment - Someone that I would like to shout out would be Jenna, even though everyone is going to shout her out this cycle and the next few (just my observations over the years). This is because throughout knowing her as well as her workload, she has displayed utmost and inspiring levels of leadership and dedication to her craft. I know that she is incredibly busy, most so with cross country, and has limited hours each day. Yet despite that she is able to get her work done, get it done early, volunteer herself, and much more. My only concern for her is that she will get burnt out the same way Makenzie did last year, and her mental health should not bear the brunt of work; work should still be stressful but not to the point of tarnishing the most important part of oneself.
Core Principles - I believe that I have embodied the “Evolve and Grow with Change'' core principle the most because this summer has been a remarkable change in my character, my workload, my dreams, as well as my purpose. Throughout this summer and first week, I was able to really hone down who I am, who I serve, and what I want to do with my life. One small component of this all that I can share is viewing both teachers and students (and pretty much all people) as adults, as people. Although that sounds weird, whenever I interact with people it is from the perspective of the society, the person at large, as their individual creature. I don’t think I’m giving this explanation justice but regardless I have much more understanding of the way people tick, why they do what they do, and how I want to respond to their actions. I fully believe that I have fulfilled all of these principles excellently, both inside and outside the classroom and with leadership students and scenarios. I have been reflecting a lot this summer and I believe that I have truly changed for the better and as of now I’m performing on all of those levels excellently.
My Impact - I have impacted my peers inside and outside the classroom through exemplary behavior and work, as well as pushing some of my closest friends to become better themselves because I want to see them successful. I have been respectful in my classes, turned in work early and well done, and pushed my peers to be better athletes, students, and people. I want to make the people who I have known for so long become better and realize their true potential to positively impact this world and live their own contentful life.
ASB Report September
Spencer Redula
Technology Department
18 September 2023
Position assessment - Throughout the beginning of the school year up until this point, technology has been exceedingly busy alongside the rest of our responsibilities. We have been recording girl’s volleyball, football, and are going to record water polo and girls golf. We have been condensing clips as we have been going, and the rest of our work resides in our special committees, hence why this portion is much shorter than normal.
Standing Committee - The standing committee I have been in would be the mental health committee, as displayed by the creation of the mental health book. I have organized a google doc for the pages and the writeups, gave input at each meeting, started creating my own work, and have been communicating with all of these throughout. The work has not been consistent but my parts have been consistently on time and thorough.
Special Committee - The special committees I have been on include coronation, my intent, Dude Be Nice, and the candidate reveal rally. For coronation, I have been talking to Jenna and Morty about filming during the rallies as well as the reveal on homecoming night. Besides that, I need to man the drone as well as the music for the different rallies. I have been directing and working with the other members of the technology department for recording, filming for the gratitude project, and much more. I have also been communicating with the other members of the class for their parts in these different projects.
Mentorship Evaluation/Completion at time of Meeting - Myself and Robin have completed the mentorship task of goal setting, which was a fun event to do that we did in our shared 1st period. It was nice to see his goals and see how they compare to mine, especially in the different categories I created like character goals. I am very proud of how much he has done and raised the level with Tory their position and how much they have been doing. He has most definitely exceeded expectations already and we have not even gotten past homecoming.
Concerns/Change - A concern that I see that I would like to mention but I don’t think will get resolved is people not getting what needs to be done, especially when I know they aren’t busy. The people in this program that are incredibly busy: Deep, Jenna, Gia, Devin, Alizeh, and many many more are working their butts off each and every day with so many extracurriculars, jobs, sports, and more, and STILL getting any assignment thrown at them done well and on time. Yet the people who have half the amount of workload and time somehow fail to get the work to get done. It honestly makes me respect them more and the people who aren’t doing their work a whole lot less. People need to step up, it’s embarrassing.
Positive comment - Someone that I would like to shout out would be Deep. It is honestly crazy how he does some of the things, especially working 4+ hour shifts on weekdays and still getting work done and performing well on tests, Although he isn’t perfect, as with everyone else, his drive for success financially, academically, and as a character is very impressive and I enjoy being around him. He makes me push a lot harder.
Core Principles - I believe the core principles I have been following the best would be the “Be Impeccable” and “Evolve and Grow with Change” and have been less prominent in “Your Puzzle Piece Matters” and “The Beacon of Empowerment.” I have been adapting and honestly being amazing with all the work and things I want to accomplish; I truly am proud of my work recently. However, I might be in my own world most of the time and need to focus more on leaving a legacy.
My Impact - My impact, funny enough, has been through my AP Calculus class and helping people out. We have a class discord and both in there and in/out of class I have been helping people a lot. This is something I don’t mind at all, but I’m surprised I have had to help this much with my peers.
ASB Report October-December
Spencer Redula
Technology Department
5 December 2023
Position assessment - Throughout these months right after Homecoming, the Technology Department has been extremely busy with multiple projects. These projects include the Dude Be Nice Award recipient video, the My Intent promotion video, a video for the ASB of Hughson due to their advisor, the Gratitude Video, and a Snap Raise fundraiser video for the class. These projects were all thrust upon us right after Homecoming except for the Gratitude video, which we started in August for planning out, and we narrowly finished all of them in time for the due dates with a day or two to spare for each. Besides those videos, we ran music and recordings of different rallies throughout, such as that of the Dude Be Nice rally and the Warm and Fuzzy Rally. Amongst all of these events and projects, we have started to start planning out recording winter sports for the end-of-the-year video in May and starting to get a jumpstart on that.
Standing Committee - For the Mental Health Advocates, I have attended and contributed each meeting inside and out of the classroom, as seen through my contributions to the book as a whole with the chapters and content that I wrote and created. For the curriculum analysis, I had a meeting on a Wednesday that covered the changes we would like; Morty altered these for the 3 weeks that we get back from Thanksgiving break and so far the class has liked them a significant amount compared to the past versions.
Special Committee - For the Hughson and Snap Raise videos, we edited those and exported them to Morty with efficiency. The Hughson video was recorded by Ricky and Ximena, while the Snap Raise video I recorded one morning with the ASB team, Hailey, and Aiyana.
Mentorship Evaluation/Completion at time of Meeting - Throughout these past months, myself and Robin have gotten a lot closer and the time we have spent together I have quite enjoyed. As mentioned in previous ASB reports, myself and Robin share a first period together alongside being in Morty’s room during lunch most days. With that being said, it has been nice to talk to him and know about him and his life. I appreciate all the work that he puts in on a daily basis for school, his jobs, and his life in general, because I can notice that he has a lot on his plate and still puts forth a lot of effort.
Concerns/Change - Concerns that I have as of now would be the roughly same groups during free time that just go on their phone and scroll, especially during work days. Now, I have no problem with people taking a break during these workdays; since leadership is seventh period, I get that most of us are tired. But with that being said, there is a difference between closing your eyes and just relaxing on the couch and scrolling your phone the entire period, laughing and getting nothing done, but then falling behind in your work. If you are tired, I get it, you should relax, but just take some time to have a moment of peace and just get off your phone, because all you are doing is distracting more people.
Positive comment - The positive comment that I would like to give over these past couple of months would be the Junior class officers. Coming off of Homecoming and going straight to preparation and execution of the Dude Be Nice week, it is a lot. They diligently put in the time and effort, delineated responsibilities and had the appropriate meetings and everything went well. The rally was great, the execution was great, and I could tell they all put in sufficient effort throughout the whole process.
Core Principles - I believe I have exemplified all of the core principles throughout these couple of months for several reasons. For the “Be Impeccable” portion, myself and the technology team did a wonderful job during these months to get the job done on time and well. It wasn’t easy but the job gets done. For “The Beacon of Empowerment”, my Elder Project presentation was something that I believed was especially important for the help of the class individually and as a whole. For “Your Puzzle Piece Matters”, I believe I have stepped forth and put in the effort each day for my job and this program to get what is needed done and well. And finally, “Evolve and Grow with Change” was exemplified through my passages in the weekly accomplishments, as I reflect every night on what went well, what I could improve on, and how I am going to tackle the next day right before I go to bed.
My Impact - My impact throughout these months would be once again through helping my peers both in person and online through Discord for calc. This is something that I don’t get bothered by, unless it takes multiple hours of my day, because the people that are asking questions and wanting to get help are actually putting forth the effort each day to try to learn and understand the content, and if I do why can’t I help them out too.
ASB Report January - Winterfest
Spencer Redula
Technology Department
26 January 2024
Position assessment - In January and through Winterfest, myself and technology have been very busy in staying on top of our recording and helping out each class/ASB. I have recorded girls’ basketball, coordinated the camera for recordings, and played music each morning before school during Winterfest. I ran music for the Winterfest rally and dealt with the adaptations with that position, and have plans to help out Mrs. Ochoa and Girls League by being the DJ of their upcoming dance on February 15th. We have started the End of the Year Video editing, and are getting on top of the freshman to senior year transitions for the video already.
Standing Committee - For the mental health advocates, we finished editing and publishing the process alongside Mrs. Mortensen for the publication of our book Recharge. I am extremely happy with what this group has accomplished over this school year and the product that we can use to help teens possibly all throughout the US. For the curriculum changing, we made small changes to the new and improved weekly accomplishments, and implemented it into journal 4.0. I proofread the document created by Mrs. Mortensen and it is ready for next year’s class.
Special Committee - I have been in no special committees during this period of time.
Mentorship Evaluation/Completion at time of Meeting - Robin and I have continued to grow together both in our first periods and through Payton’s mentorship program. For our vision boards, we had highly similar ideas on what we want to accomplish. Keep our physical and mental health healthy, improve in the gym, keep great grades up, and continue to pursue our own personal goals.
Concerns/Change - As mentioned by Morty during our pro/con on Friday the 26th, even though we had a lot of great constructive feedback on what we can improve on next time, the effort some members of this class have been putting forth has been extremely little, and it will be reflected in who is in the program next year. Those who aren’t doing their job are holding down those who are actually doing things everyday.
Positive comment - Someone that I would like to shout out during this time period would be Allie. She has done so so much for Winterfest, and the sheer time investment she has put in is extremely commendable and displays her commitment to this program.
Core Principles - I believe that I have fulfilled all four of the core principles, “Be Impeccable,” “Your Puzzle Piece Matters,” “The Beacon of Empowerment,” and “Evolve and Grow with Change.” Throughout this section of time, I have dedicated so much time for leadership and in general to things relating to leadership. I have done so much to make sure this program will be great next year as well as keep doing things now to finish this year off on a high note. I really, really do not want to fall into the senioritis commonality, and still grow as a person and as a leader.
My Impact - By no one’s surprise, I have continued my impact through calc, but also through helping out Girls League. I continue to help my classmates with tutoring through text or during odd periods of time during the school day. And I am going to DJ a dance for the first time, even without knowing how to mix music in the first place. I will try my best but who knows :)
ASB Report Feb/March
Spencer Redula
Technology Department
15 March 2024
Position assessment - In these past two months, technology has been extremely busy with different tasks and projects. First, because the MacBook broke during 8th grade day (where we set up music for both the beginning and lunchtime), it has been fixed and now we have created a new plan for moving forward to get this project done. I have an idea for the ending, will be constructing the music to use, and we will get this project done as soon as possible. Although there have been barriers, I do believe that we can finish this with high quality and efficiency.
Standing Committee - I have been in no action within my standing committees throughout these two months.
Special Committee - For the gallery of the arts standing committee, I was within Gia’s group, and we set up and cleaned up for the event (in addition to myself running music beforehand). In addition, for The Challenge, I was in my own committee with Deep and we are handling the music for the EOY dance, to which we are running and have communicated/had a meeting with Vasche about that.
Mentorship Evaluation/Completion at time of Meeting - Throughout the challenge and during lunches, I have spent a lot more time with Robin than in other intervals. I thoroughly enjoyed writing my letter for The Challenge to him, and talking to him about the things we have in common, such as weightlifting and exercise in general, are extremely interesting and I always love to learn more things about him.
Concerns/Change - A concern that I have that hopefully is addressed is that there only are a select few in this class that are actually doing things. There are the people at the top, which are loaded with everything and anything, the people in the middle who don’t do much/are in the middle, and the people who do not do anything at all.
Positive comment - The person that I would like to shout out would be Deep. He has put in so much time and effort to fix this MacBook, lead the speakers for the Challenge, deal with all of the music and technical parts of this job, and is incredible in what he does. Even with the workload of 3 people combined, the quality does not diminish and I am very proud of what he has done and how he will finish off this year.
Core Principles - I believe that I have fulfilled all four of the core principles, “Be Impeccable,” “Your Puzzle Piece Matters,” “The Beacon of Empowerment,” and “Evolve and Grow with Change.” I have put a lot of load onto my back for this program because I want to end off my high school career with not only consistency but also quality. I believe that I have had great outputs, I have done my best to help out others, and I have definitely grown in my ability to work for longer and deal with more mental strain and workload.
My Impact - The impact that I have made would be through helping out my peers in multiple classes. While I am not doing track this year, I have found that helping during labs in APES, helping Van Vuren in any way I can during TA, helping and being kind to Mrs. Hammond in gov, helping my peers with all of the work in calc, classmates in AP Spanish and AP lit, and my peers in leadership alongside the projects with that.
ASB Report April/May
Spencer Redula
Technology Department
25 April 2024
Position assessment - In these last few months, the main priorities that I have been acting upon as technology include the End-of-the-Year video as well as DJing the End-of-the-Year Dance. For the video, myself and the rest of the technology department have been continually recording as well as working on editing the video. We have been getting some progress on it, and although it isn’t entirely done, we are definitely getting there. For the DJing, myself and Deep have been downloading music, and we submitted the reminder for Vasche to watch over the specific songs, which she isn’t fully done with as of writing. For both of these I am confident that they will have great outputs and we will end off the year on a high note.
Standing Committee - In all of my standing committee positions, there has been no changes in what we have done throughout this time period.
Special Committee - The only special committee I have been a part of would be the Challenge for the End-of-the-Year Dance. As mentioned in the position assessment, we are ready and excited to be doing this once more, and are confident that it will be done well.
Mentorship Evaluation/Completion at time of Meeting - For this period, Robin and I have really been focusing on our schoolwork and our exams coming up, but we did complete and create a very nice letter to each other as well as the coloring for the Challenge in general. I very much appreciated what he put for me and I’m glad to see him succeed in the following year.
Concerns/Change - A concern that I have about this class is senoritis, but for people including and outside seniors. I feel that people have just given up, even if they are not a senior about to graduate, and it is affecting the entire class. The same people are pulling through while the same and more are just falling behind, and it’s sad to see as a whole for these people.
Positive comment - Someone that I would like to shout out in these last couple of months is the pair of Lucia and Allie for their work in the CASL presentation. I fully believe that I couldn’t have done it with Deep because of how busy we are and were, and both of them stepped up and did a great job planning and organizing all of the components of their work.
Core Principles - I believe that I have exemplified all four core principles in these last four weeks. I have done great in the work I have done, but I also have grown and changed through the failures and mistakes that I have made, I have shown the next generation of club leaders through the upcoming year, and made sure my piece has mattered through my work in the End of the Year Dance.
My Impact - I believe that my impact in these past few months is showing the people that are in lower grades than me the things that I found that was successful in the 4 years I have had. Advice on things like college applications, getting ahead, getting internships and finding opportunities, and more. I believe that when you do have the knowledge, you should pass it down once you are done to see others succeed alongside the success that you had.

Technology Department
